First Colors of Autumn

The pin cherries are the first trees to give us autumn colors at the farm with their ripening berries. Yesterday I saw the first few trees turning their leaves - we have some exciting days ahead here at Arboreality!

J'aime l'automne!!

  1. fall is wonderful. i love wverthing about it. the coolness, the colors, the smell of nature slowing down. it's invigorating and comforting all at the same time. how lucky you are to be on a farm where you can really get close to nature.

  2. Ahhh....fall colors. Yes, autumn is creeping up on us...on my walk last evening, I saw a few crimson leaves on a maple tree, and we're supposed to see a frost tonight!

  3. April, I do feel very fortunate to be able to enjoy autumn on the farm. However, the benefit to living in the city in the autumn is watching the leaves turn on many garden trees, which include the incredibly colorful Japanese maples (a personal favorite of mine). Autumn is my favorite time of year... I'm so glad it's here!

Michelle, I can hardly wait for the first frost. Frost looks beautiful on autumn leaves too. Of course, I didn't get a garden in this year, which means that I won't be lamenting the first killing frost. Which reminds me, I should bring my potted herbs in soon!

  4. Those are some cool berries, are they edible? I guess berries like the cool because its considerably cooling down here!

  5. Ducklover, I do believe that these are edible - they are basically teeny, tiny cherries. However, based on what I've read, they are rather tart, so I'm leaving them for the birds. There are other (bigger) wild cherries that I intend to try, if I remember to harvest them before they all fall down.
